Learning to Slow Down at Our Off-Grid Cabin in the Cotswolds

One of the most rewarding parts of creating our off-grid cabin stay in the Cotswolds has been welcoming people from all over the UK.

Guests arrive from very different places and walks of life. Some are celebrating something special, some need a break after a busy few months, and others simply want a quiet few days away together. But there is a common thread: people come here looking for peace, fresh air and the chance to step out of the everyday rush.

When we first built the cabin, we did wonder whether the lack of Wi-Fi and television would put people off. It is, after all, rather different from many breaks away. There is phone signal should it be needed, but no screen constantly on in the corner, no endless scrolling and no pressure to fill every quiet moment.

In reality, the opposite has been true.

Many guests say that being without the usual digital noise is one of the things they enjoy most about their stay. A Cotswolds cabin retreat becomes an opportunity to read, cook together, walk, sit outside with a coffee, watch the changing light over the lake and simply have time to talk.

One couple said something that has particularly stayed with us: they told us how lovely it had been to “learn to talk to each other again”.

That perhaps sums up what a proper countryside escape can offer. Nothing grand or over-designed — just space, stillness and time. Time to sit by the fire, take a walk around the farm, listen to the birds in the morning or spend an evening outside beneath the stars.

For those wanting an even deeper reset, our wood-fired Wild Sauna offers another way to slow down: warmth, cold water, fresh air and quiet conversation beside the lake.

The farm is a real, working and changing place. There is woodland, water, weather, birds and wildlife, and a sense that life continues at its own pace. The work we do here to care for habitats and wildlife is also at the heart of The Wild Collective, our small conservation membership for those who would like to support the land beyond a visit.

For us, it is a genuine privilege to share Leys Farm with our guests. We hoped the cabin would give people a chance to reconnect with the countryside, but it has been particularly lovely to see that it can also help people reconnect with themselves — and, sometimes, with each other.

Come for a quiet break in the North Cotswolds. Leave feeling as though life has slowed down, just a little.h other.
