Ash dieback is changing our woodland.

Responsible woodland management means some ash must be removed while healthier trees are retained and given the opportunity to further flourish. Suitable timber is then air-seasoned, cut and split into a high-quality firewood product.
The value created stays close to the land, helping the continuing work of replanting, protecting and establishing the next generation of woodland.
Good firewood first: dry, carefully prepared and easy to use. Its provenance is what makes it different.

English Ash

Predominantly English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior), a traditional English hardwood valued for useful, dependable firewood.

Two purposeful lengths

20cm Standard Cut for everyday stove use or 10cm Compact Cut for smaller fireboxes and easier handling.

Stove-friendly split

Prepared to a practical split profile so the logs are easier to stack, light and arrange in the firebox.

The five-species mix is already part of our agreed Forestry Commission woodland plan. It replaces the much narrower planting approach used in the mid-1980s and is designed to create a more diverse woodland for the future.

WHY REPLANTING MATTERS

More than replacing the trees we lose.

Re-establishing the woodland with a more diverse mix is about long-term resilience as well as replacement. Trees store carbon, provide habitat, protect soils, influence water movement and create shade and cooler local microclimates through hotter, drier summers.

Carbon

Growing trees absorb carbon dioxide and store carbon in trunks, branches, roots and woodland soils.

Biodiversity

A more varied woodland creates a greater range of food, shelter, flowering, fruiting and habitat opportunities.

Water

Woodland can slow the movement of water across land, improve infiltration and help moderate runoff during heavier rainfall.

Soils

Roots and permanent woodland cover help protect soil structure, reduce erosion and support complex soil ecosystems.
This is not a carbon-offset scheme. It is a direct, local cycle: necessary woodland management produces useful timber, and the value created remains connected to the long-term renewal of the woodland it came from.
NATURAL SEASONING

Dry firewood, naturally seasoned.

Our firewood is air-seasoned at Leys Farm. Logs are stacked under cover with good airflow and given the time they need to dry naturally to a moisture content of 20% or below.
Kiln drying can be fast and effective, but it requires energy to accelerate a process that would otherwise happen naturally. Depending on how that heat is produced, kiln drying may add environmental impact.
At our scale we prefer to use time, shelter and moving air. It fits the woodland, the product and the way we want to operate.

The firewood is predominantly English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) from woodland management at Leys Farm.

Choose the 20cm Standard Cut for normal everyday stove use or the 10cm Compact Cut if you have a smaller firebox or prefer shorter, easier-to-handle pieces.

The Standard Box measures approximately 18 × 12 × 13 inches, with an external volume of about 46 litres. Our current packing trials produce a box of typically around 15kg. Firewood is a natural product, so actual weight will vary slightly with density and moisture content.

Standard delivery to most UK mainland addresses is included in the displayed prices. Any remote-area supplement will be shown before payment.
